Easter is over, and we're now officially entering into a new Liturgical Season: Ordinary Time. Often when people hear the word "ordinary," they assume it means that something is uneventful, boring, or not special. When it comes to the liturgical calendar, we may have the bad habit of tossing aside Ordinary Time because it's not as "special" as the Incarnation at Christmas, the Passion during Holy Week, the Resurrection on Easter, or the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
The reality is that Ordinary Time is anything but ordinary. This time is dedicated to pondering the life of Jesus Christ, allowing ourselves to be transformed by His love and to living what we preach. Ordinary Time is a wonderful time to take a look at our own spiritual lives and see where we can grow and mature as disciples.
As we will hear in the upcoming weeks, the God of signs and wonders is still working and moving among us. Miracles still happen. Whether it's feeding the crowds, raising the dead, or healing the wounded — Jesus is present. He's here in our midst. That's not uneventful or boring — in fact, it's pretty special.
As we head into this "ordinary" season, we invite you to pray. Pray that the Holy Spirit will inspire and convict you to conform yourself more to Christ. The closer we are to Him, the better we can point others to Him.
