(CRANSTON, R.I.)- The Catholic Cemetery Office of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence has announced the construction of a new mausoleum at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston. Bishop Thomas J. Tobin will offer a blessing at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Mausoleum of SS. Peter and Paul on Tuesday, May 1 at 1:00 pm.
“Caring for our beloved dead is an important and faith-filled ministry of the Church,” said Bishop Tobin. The new mausoleum will provide another beautiful option for Catholics to consider in fulfilling this act of mercy and love.”
The unique design of the mausoleum emulates the architecture of the Cathedral of SS. Peter & Paul in Providence. Designed by Cemetery Design Associates of Covington, Louisiana, and constructed by McCleskey Mausoleums of Buford, Georgia. The building will have a variety of crypt configurations for casketed entombments as well as niche options for the entombment of the faithful that have been cremated.
A general overview of and renderings of the new mausoleum will be made available at the groundbreaking ceremony. Completion date is expected late 2019.
St. Ann cemetery currently has six mausoleums for the entombment of the deceased. The last two mausoleums were built in 2010.
Media is invited to cover the groundbreaking ceremony.
