Rev. Robert F. Hawkins, 74, Pastor Emeritus of St. Luke Parish, Barrington, died on Thursday, December 15, 2022. Calling Hours will be in St. Luke Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington, on Tuesday, December 20, from 3 – 7pm, followed by a Mass for Vocations at 7pm. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for the repose of Father’s soul on Wednesday, December 21, at 10am, at St. Luke Church. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
On the Feast of Saint Nicholas, Dec. 6 the Masse family at Paul Masse Chevrolet in East Providence presented Bishop Thomas J. Tobin with a large donation to benefit vital ministries of the Diocese of Providence. The family donated $250,000 to the Catholic Charity Appeal, which through its many ministries, provides social, educational and spiritual support to thousands of Rhode Islanders each year. A gift of $50,000 was given to the Diocesan Assistance Fund which provides charitable support for a number of causes. And a gift of $50,000 to the “Keep the Heat On” program which helps families and individuals keep their homes warm throughout the winter.

PROVIDENCE — Louise Dussault — widely known as “Duce” — has spent the last 34 years serving the Diocese of Providence as the Director of Catholic Youth Ministry. In these past three decades, she has dedicated herself to responding to the needs of young people and helping to create a space so that their unique gifts could be shared with the larger community. But it is her own unique gifts that have made a lasting impact on those she has encountered in her many years in the diocese.
When Bishop Tobin kicked off the beginning of this year’s “Keep the Heat On” challenge, which he initiated almost 18 years ago upon coming to Providence, he encouraged the students of St. Cecilia School in Pawtucket to recall the blistering winters Rhode Islanders often experience. With the fuel and inflation crises, this year marks an especially crucial time to remember those in need.
Three neighboring parishes in Providence and North Providence which have been united by combined efforts and a shared pastor since 2013 will now become formally united as a single parish.
Many years ago, I attended a Peter, Paul and Mary concert in Pittsburgh. You know Peter, Paul and Mary – the famous folk group that sang Puff the Magic Dragon, If I Had a Hammer, Blowin’ in the Wind, and lots of other anthems to peace and justice. But at this concert, a few rows in front of me, were several young guys who apparently had a little too much to drink or smoke. They were carrying-on – loud, disrespectful and disruptive.....
