Catholic School Students Essay Contest

“Living as Brothers and Sisters:
Rising to the challenge of St. Paul and Martin Luther King Jr.”

Each year the Office of Black Catholic Ministry for the Diocese of Providence sponsors an Annual Essay Contest, which involves Catholic Elementary Schools throughout Rhode Island, grades 4 thru 8.  This year’s essay contest’s theme was “Living as Brothers and Sisters: Rising to the challenge of St. Paul and Martin Luther King Jr.”.  Dr. Camille Brown, Assistant Superintendant of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Providence generously agreed to select the final winners for this years contest. 

Essays were submitted by students from All Saints Academy, Middletown; Bishop McVinney School, Providence; Blessed Sacrament School, Providence; Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, Bristol; Our Lady of Mercy School, East Greenwich; Sacred Heart School, East Providence; St. Luke School, Barrington; St. Mary School, Cranston; St. Mary Academy Bay View, Riverside; St. Peter School, Warwick; St. Rocco School, Johnston; and St. Rose of Lima School, Warwick;

Preliminary judges for the Essays were Advisory Board Members; Virginia Neves Gonsalves, Ms. Barbara Butler, Ms. Mary Best, Mrs. Dolores Taylor and Mrs. Patty January

The awards presented to the Essay Contest winners were, 1st place $50 gift card from Borders and certificate, 2nd and 3rd $25 gift card and certificate, honorable mentions receive a certificate.
