Cemeteries
The Church considers the cemetery to be a holy place. In their cemeteries, therefore, Christians bury and show honor to the bodies not only of their brothers and sisters in faith, but also of those to whom they are bound by the ties of a common humanity: in shedding his blood on the cross for all, Christ has redeemed us all.
(The Book of Blessings, n. 1418)
There are 37 Catholic cemeteries across Rhode Island. Nine of these cemeteries are maintained by the Diocese, others are incorporated and operated by individual parishes. The Diocesan Cemeteries office has information and records only for Diocesan cemeteries; information regarding a parish cemetery is available through the specific parish.
