Rest in Peace Fr. Anthony F. Carmone (1919-2010)

REVEREND ANTHONY F. CARMONE  

Rev. Anthony F. Carmone, 91, Senior Priest of the Diocese of Providence, died on January 25, 2010 in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Born in Bristol, a son of the late Matteo and Josephine (Paratore) Carmone, he attended public schools in Bristol.

As a member of the Society of St. Paul, he studied for the priesthood in Derby, New York, Rome, Italy, and Youngstown, Ohio.  He was ordained a priest on May 31, 1947 in Youngstown and served in various teaching positions in the Diocese of Youngstown until 1962.  In November 1962 he returned to Rhode Island and became assistant pastor at St. Joseph Church, Pascoag.  In December 1964 he was transferred to St. Bernard Church, Wickford, and while there he was incardinated into the Diocese of Providence on August 8, 1966.  Between 1968-72 Fr. Carmone served as assistant pastor at Sacred Heart Church, West Warwick, St. Mary, Providence, and Holy Angels, Barrington.  In February 1972 he was appointed as assistant chaplain at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence, and remained there until his retirement in October 1987.  At that time he took up residence in Port Charlotte, Florida, and offered his priestly services in San Pedro parish.

He was the brother of the late Matthew, Paul, Vincent and Virginia Carmone, Columbia Palumbo, Louise Cote, and Emily Condely.  He leaves a number of nephews and nieces. 

Callings hours will be held at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Bristol on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. 

A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for the repose of his soul at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Bristol, on Wednesday, February 3, at 10:00 AM.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol.
